History
DSP Hitches started out as a humble welding shop in the Old Strathcona area of Edmonton, Alberta in June of 1961. The late Richard Teske, along with his brother and parents, poured his heart and soul into the small company, which would eventually grow into the oldest and largest hitch manufacturer in Canada.
Over the years, under the name Diversified Steel Products Mfg. Ltd., the DSP Hitches line of towing products and accessories was born. The Teske family has always remained at the heart of ownership and operations of the company.
Over time, product lines such as DSP Weight Distribution systems, DSP Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Hitches and DSP Camper Tiedown Systems were developed.
Our DSP Fifth Wheel Hitch systems underwent the evolution from Over Fender (1981-1991), to the Between Fender (1985-1991), to Canada’s first removable Fifth Wheel Hitch (1987) to sliding Fifth Wheel Hitches (since 1987) to our sliding Falcon Hitch (since 2008) made for recreational and light commercial use. DSP was also the manufacturer of the first removable Gooseneck Hitch in Canada. 2021 marked the retirement of our 26,000 lbs gooseneck hitch and the introduction for our brand new 30,000 lbs engineering certified sliding gooseneck hitch.
For many decades, DSP Hitches was a wholesale business servicing Western Canada all the way to Thunder Bay, Ontario. The company finally made the jump to a factory direct retail business in the spring of 2014 and has since been selling DSP Hitches to all Canadian provinces and territories.
In May of 2018, Diversified Steel Products Mfg. Ltd. closed its doors with the retirement of its founder Richard Teske. Brian and Katja (Kat) Teske had been long time employees of the company and realized that DSP Hitches were still sought after by customers and so a new company was born: 2114391 Alberta Ltd. operating as DSP Hitches open its doors at 6110 Davies Road NW, Edmonton, AB on June 1st, 2018. Husband and wife team Brian and Katja (Kat) bring more than fifty years of combined experience in the RV industry to the company.
Brian Teske grew up in the business and started with janitorial duties in his early childhood. Soon enough he became shipper & receiver, then delivery driver and once he graduated high school, the drafts person for his dad’s company. Brian had been a full time employee of Diversified Steel Products Manufacturing since 1989 and while starting at the bottom had worked his way up to management. Knowing all the nuts and bolts of the business paid off and he eventually became the head of sales and marketing. His drafting abilities combined with his knowledge of the RV and towing industry also gave him the edge to design most of DSP Hitches products for the past 20 years. In addition, he programmed the equipment at Diversified Steel Products for the production of these products.
Katja (Kat) Teske joined Diversified Steel Products Manufacturing fresh out of University with a degree in International Business in 1998. Her many different duties included the development of DSP’s first website, packing & shipping/receiving, human resources, customer service & accounting.
Both of Brian & Katja’s children have grown up with the business playing a big part in their lives but their son Konstantin took a more active role in the business during the Summer and early Fall of 2021. First, he joined Brian in the warehouse for the packing and assembly of products and then moved into customer service. While he is now working outside of the business, he sometimes fills in on the phones when Katja or Brian are not available.
While DSP Hitches products are no longer manufactured in-house, we outsource to local Edmonton fabricators who built all our products to our strict and well established specifications so our customers still receive the same well-built and reliable hitches they are used to. Final assembly is still done by us in our warehouse.
